In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month - September 15th - October 15th - we've compiled some amazing resources to help our students and families learn more about the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
What's Happening At Avery & Around the District
Calling all 1st and 2nd graders! Get ready for an unforgettable adventure on the Avery Elementary stage with **Kitty Cat Capers**, our annual musical filled with singing, dancing, and acting. Your child will create their own costume pieces, work with volunteers, and shine in two family-friendly performances on **Friday, November 15th**.
Registration opens on Tuesday, September 24th at 9am.
Koresha Braxton has been appointed the Assistant Principal of Teaching, Learning and Culture at Avery! We had an 11 person interview committee for this position consisting of Avery educators, district leaders and Avery caregivers. The committee is so thrilled that Koresha is joining the Avery team. Koresha comes to us with over 20 years experience as an elementary school educator in the Boston and Cambridge Public Schools.
Avery Elementary will be adding an Assistant Principal of Teaching, Learning and Culture in the 2024-25 school year. Principal Mendonsa is looking for families and staff to join the interview committee.

Thanks to a generous grant by the Dedham Education Foundation, all students will be shopping at our Book Fair where money is NOT accepted. High quality, popular books will be available to students to take home and kick off summer reading.
Take a look at all the fun to be had at Avery Field Day 2024!
Every year, our 5th-grade teachers organize a trip to the Hale Reservation "Ropes Course," which teaches students about working together and conquering fears. As part of the program, students participate in team building activities and even go through ropes courses!
4th-grade students visited the Roger William Zoo in Rhode Island last week. Students were able to see all sorts of animals, and even attended a class about animal adaptations, which supports the science curriculum they learn in class!

The May 31st Spring Concert included performances by all grades, as well as the Bell Choir, Glee Club, and 4th & 5th Grade Bands.
