Avery Main Office
Welcome to the Avery Elementary School! Avery is one of the four Elementary schools in the Dedham Public School District, serving approximately 300+ students in grades 1-5.
Avery students are challenged every day to be Respectful, Responsible, Flexible, Safe, and Hard Working.
Avery Elementary School was named in honor of Dr. William Avery in 1867, who in 1860 donated £60 for "for the encouragement of a Latin school in Dedham." The original Avery Elementary School was built in 1826 and rebuilt after a fire in 1921 adjacent to the historic Mother Brook, site of the first man-made canal in the United States, built in 1639, according to the Dedham Historical Society.. The newest Avery building was opened in 2012 on a new school site near Dedham High School.
